Measurement of the Planck’s constant with an incandescent lamp and an LED as a photodetector

Abstract: In some experiments for the determination of Planck's constant, phototransistors or photodiodes have been used as photodetector devices to measure the radiation emitted by an incandescent lamp. Optical filters to select a narrow band of the spectrum are necessary when using these electronic components. This work presents a method to measure the Planck constant, also based on the use of an incandescent lamp, which takes advantage of the photodetector properties of the LED, its linear response and its narrow sensitivity band, which avoids the use of filters.

Keywords: Planck’s constant, LED, incandescent lamp.
