Professor Herrera’s significant contribution to the history of the College of Nursing of Cadiz and its professionals

Abstract

Professor Herrera’s essential contribution to the history of the College of Nursing of Cádiz led its Governing Board in 2011 to recognize his career and name him an Honorary Member. The institution distinguished him for “his valuable contribution
as a teacher and researcher to our profession, as well as to the History of Cádiz and Latin American Medicine” (Excmo. Colegio de Enfermería de Cádiz, 2023).
The professor actively participated in the institutional celebration of the centenary of the College of Nursing of Cadiz. The historical production of the nursing profession was faithfully reflected in the panels created for the important event, which were displayed
for some dates in the Palace of the Provincial Council of Cadiz.
Numerous articles about the professionals, practitioners, midwives, and nurses of the province made us know their protagonists and were the starting point for subsequent investigations.
We must highlight his works published in the collegiate magazine Enfermería Gaditana. Its contents both current and historical review in the scientific section of “History and Anthropology of Health and Disease.”
Due to his broad academic vocation and his involvement with the nursing discipline, we can consider Professor Herrera as a doctor with a nursing soul. This has been reflected in his historical contribution to the Cádiz institution and its professionals.
