Author Guidelines

GUIDELINES FOR THE SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS FOR THE JOURNAL “CUADERNOS DE INVESTIGACIÓN DE FONDOS DEL ARCHIVO UCA” GUIDELINES FOR THE AUTHORS

1. Only manuscripts in Spanish are accepted, although the editorial team might decide to accept manuscripts in English.

2. Manuscripts may be written by one or several authors. In either case, only one article will be published per number.

3. Articles must be related to the content of the documentary repositories of the Archive of the UCA. They may discuss one particular document, a collection of documents, or summarise the information obtained from a consultation.

4. Submission of articles will begin on 15th September and the deadline will be 30th November.

5. Authors may decide the length of their manuscript, the minimum being two pages, size A4 (approximately 1,000 words), excluding the abstracts and keywords.

6. All text will use Times New Roman:

a) For the body of the text, use 12-point size font, with 1.5 line spacing and with 2.5 cm margins on all sides. Use italics rather than bold or underlining. The first line should be indented by 1.25 cm.

b) Use 12-point size small caps for the headings, spaced from the previous line with double return, left aligned with Arabic numerals; but do not number the Introduction, the References nor the Appendices. However, the appendices may use Roman Numerals (Appendix I, Appendix II…).

c) Use italics for subheadings, spaced from the previous line with double return and following the appropriate numbering within the heading.

d) Use 10-point size for footnotes and the sources of the tables and figures.

7. If tables, pictures, graphs, or diagrams are included, these should appear in their corresponding position within the text and showing their header (Title) and footer (Source).

8. Use Microsoft Word and number the pages.

9. The first page of the manuscript will contain, with the text centred and using 12-point size font, the following information:

a) Title of the work in Spanish, using bold font.

b) Name and surnames of the author or authors; academic rank or professional position and place of work using italic font. Authors who are in private practice or who have no institutional affiliation should include their location giving the city; province; and country. This data may be completed, in separate lines, with public e-mail and ORCID code, both in italics.

Example:

El Archivo Histórico de la Universidad de Murcia
María Isabel Segura Molina
Jefa de Sección del Archivo Histórico de la Universidad de Murcia
e-mail: ejemplo@ejemplo.es
ORCID: https://orcid.org/XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

c) An abstract of the work, between four and eight lines long, in Spanish. This abstract should expound the object and aims of the work, the approach, methodology, and the general conclusions. It will be preceded by the word «Resumen» in small caps, followed by a colon.

RESUMEN: (text of the abstract).

d) Keywords (we recommend four words) in Spanish, each of them with the first letter in uppercase and separated with a comma (,), preceded by «Palabras clave» in lowercase letters, italics and a colon.

CITATIONS, NOTES, BIBLIOGRAPHY AND SOURCES

The Journal must be referenced with its complete title «Cuadernos de Investigación de Fondos del Archivo UCA» and the Archive as «Archive of the University of Cádiz (AUCA)».

The notes, citations and references published on paper or those referring to electronic documents will always be written in compliance with APA Style, Seventh Edition.

Citations or quotes are partial expressions of ideas or statements incorporated in a text with an accurate reference to its source or origin. Short quotes should be within the paragraph and use angular quotation marks («») (for texts in Spanish). With regards to quotes over three lines, these will appear in a separate paragraph, with no first-line indent, but with double indent for the whole paragraph.

The references are a list that makes it possible to identify and locate the complete information of the sources cited in the text, which specifically support the article. In contrast, a bibliography cites works that supported or are useful for further reading.

1. Name and date method (APA Style, Seventh Edition)

  1. 1. Citation

The name of the author and year of publication are written within the main body of the text, following the name and date style. If the name of the author appears in the main body of the text, only the year must be inserted between parentheses. If two or more sources have the same author and year of publication, these will be differentiated by adding a lowercase letter (a, b, c, etc.).

The surname of the author should use small caps and the title of the work should be in italic font. References should appear with a first-line indent of 1.15 cm.

DOCUMENTARY SOURCES

The documentary sources must be recorded as they appear in the archive where the document was consulted. Identify the institution or archive, document title, years, catalogue number (book or file) and pages. This information will be incorporated in a footnote, writing the complete name of the institution or the archive in the first footnote in which it appears. For subsequent notes, use the acronym of the name.

Furthermore, these will be repeated in a separate “Documentary Sources” section.

Preliminary assessment

All submissions will undergo a preliminary assessment to verify they meet:

  • The criteria established in these Guidelines
  • The quality standards

The texts that are published in the Journal will be subjected to a style and orthotypographic correction by a professional proofreader. Once done, the pre-designed article will be returned to the author and with some suggestions, if any, which the author will decide to incorporate or not. After returning the article again, a second evaluation will be carried out, if necessary, and it will be sent again in its case. Once this is done, it will be converted to PDF and returned to the author for final supervision, before being published on the Portal of Journals of UCA.

The authors are obliged to verify that the submission of their manuscripts meets all the criteria laid out by these Presentation Guidelines. Manuscripts not meeting these criteria will be returned to the authors.
