The library of the Royal College of Medicine and Surgery of the Navy, and its relationship with the primitive Library of Cortes: a contribution to the supposed despoilment by Bartolomé Josep Gallardo

Abstract
On the occasion of the establishment of the Library of the Cortes in Cádiz in 1811, funds deposited at that time in the Royal College of Surgery and Medicine of Cadiz, corresponding to the Library of the Navy (Mendoza Commission) and the “Cea Collection”, were transferred to the Library by Bartolomé José Gallardo, director of that library. Through the lists drawn up by Gallardo himself and the return lists of the original Library of Cortes, we have been able to find out the type of documents and the number of works that they took from each collection. We also know that both, the Library of the Navy and the Library of the Royal College of Surgery and Medicine, benefited from the return of works.
