Abstract

We will analyse the toponymic, literary and archaeological information that we have about the Phoenician colonial period in the settlement of Suel, located in the Cerro del Castillo, current municipal district of Fuengirola (Málaga), and that seems to emerge at the end of the 7th century BC. In addition to some grooves excavated in the rock related to metallurgical practices, the examination of the excavated building structures lets us make the difference among several types of constructions, some of which could correspond to a sanctuary, together with possible terracing walls and houses, without having data about their possible burial areas up to now.
