Abstract

This article makes a brief historiographical review of the evolution of the discoveries and the study of prehistoric art, from the first historical references that we can locate, to the present day. Focusing the analysis on the first researchers, who were so important for the establishment of the fundamental foundations of this scientific discipline. Focusing the study on the Iberian Peninsula mainly, and until the first half of the 20th century. Because from that moment, the discipline of study was greatly expanded and diversified, multiplying in such a way the findings of deposits and scientific studies dedicated to their analysis, that it would be completely immeasurable in this work. In the second part of the article, an approach is made to the different methodologies of documentation of the deposits, as well as their evolution over the years, the emergence of new technologies and changes in methodological approaches.
