On the aqueduct and the Arab water wheel in Toledo according to Idrīsī
Info
Abstract
Idrīsī in the 12th century says that in Toledo was an monumental noria- water wheel of 90 cubits or 50 m high that raised the water of river Tagus and carried it to town above the topmost tier of a building known as aqueduct. We shall see that is just possible that the building were remains of a Roman aqueduct. Certainly on the cliff, side below the Alcázar and on the outskirts of the Arab bridge of Alcántara, there are a few fragments of the important aqueduct Bridge and aqueduct were both therefore two distinct buildings, the latter and the noria disappeared finally at 13th century. We have see that the noria of Idrisi was over 38 m high.
