Abstract
Gazeta de los Niños is the first newspaper published in Spain for children. It appears in January 1798, inspired by L’Ami des enfants de Berquin. It provides spreading, short stories and tales, plays and anecdotes, without forgetting the moralizing aim. It outlines a new press destined to a very special public and scores, together with the scoop, to have had its origins in Antonio Sancha´s printing house, one of the most important in Madrid at that time. It is one of the few publications appeared in Madrid during the last years of the eighteenth century and, with its costumbrista reports, represents the beginning of this genre and of written journalism for children.
