Abstract
Masonry is one of the main subjects of ideological discussions during Spain’s first constitutional stage. The newspapers reflect numerous examples that show the importance given to the association making it responsible, by the absolutist sector, of the prevailing revolutionary ideas and their consequences. The liberal press tried to counteract those opinions making a mockery of them not only through humor and satire, but also with scorn or jokes. Here we present the content of both arguments, in favor of and against, on seven of these publications.
