Framing user experiences through personal dilemmas
Abstract
Dr.ir. Deger Ozkaramanli holds a MSc. in Design for Interaction (2011) and a PhD in the domain of Design for Experience from Delft University of Technology (2017). Between 2016 and 2018, she worked at the University of Liverpool as an assistant professor. Currently, she is an assistant professor at the University of Twente (2018-present). Her fields of research are conceptual design methods, design for experience, and systemic design for wellbeing.
Through her PhD research, Deger established a new knowledge domain that introduces an in-depth, psychology-based understanding of personal dilemmas to Design for Experience knowledge and a set of supporting tools and methods to incorporate these dilemmas in contextual user research, problem re-framing and idea generation. At the University of Twente, she continues to research dilemma-driven design. Her current research mainly focuses on developing knowledge and methods to address the moral dimensions of dilemmas, such as value conflicts, that often arise when dealing with complex societal challenges in transdisciplinary settings. In addition, she is a research fellow at DesignLab, which is a cross-faculty ecosystem that bridges science and society through design thinking. At DesignLab, she co-coordinates a transdisciplinary educational programme, Shaping Responsible Futures, where she teaches how to implement conceptual design methods in transdisciplinary practices.
