Abstract

The present research aims to describe the impact of parental accompaniment on the academic performance of 7th grade students in the area of Language and Literature at the Gonzalo Rubio Educational Unit, Province of Santo Domingo, Ecuador. The sample taken in this study was 63 students who responded to the diagnostic tests and the family APGAR test. The approach of this research is quantitative, correlational type with a non-experimental-transversal design. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 2.5 software was used for data analysis. The results showed that 55 % of students have a medium family interaction and 23 % have a low family interaction. Similarly, regarding family involvement, similar results were obtained with 22 students at a low level for 34.9 %, while 36.5 % reached a medium level. On the other hand, the data obtained from the diagnostic test show that 38 % present serious problems in their academic performance. A high positive correlation of 0.79 was found between family accompaniment and academic performance.
