Abstract
Recent studies on reading habits of schoolchildren have shown a decline not only in reading, in general, but in classical literature, in particular. But are the classics close and attractive to young readers? This work aims to answer this great question. These works have themes similar to current themes close to the first readers, however, they repeatedly fail to attract the youngest, since they are conceived distant in time and use a register that becomes distant for the youngest. However, there are strategies that make it possible not only to approach classic works, but also to enjoy and understand them. The results of this work show that the literary work of Jules Verne, energized through Dialogical Literary Gatherings in the fifth year of Primary Education, is enormously attractive for schoolchildren.
