About the Journal

The Costas Journal is a periodical scientific publication edited by Red Iberoamericana de Manejo Costero Integrado (Ibero-American Integrated Coastal Management Network - IBERMAR), supported by  the Asociación Universitaria Iberoamericana de Posgrado (Ibero-American Postgraduate University Association - AUIP) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and under the editorial support of the University of Cádiz.

The journal receives original articles and not published or proposed for this purpose in another journal, related to the main theme of Integrated Management of Coastal and Marine Zones.

 

Field of Knowledge (focus and scope)

The main thematic axes are:

  • Uses and activities of marine and coastal systems;
  • Management and/or adaptation of coastal zones to climate change;
  • Ecosystem-based planning and management of marine and coastal systems;
  • Governance of marine and coastal systems;
  • Support tools for management.

 

Periodicity of publication

Continuous flow, with two publications per year (since 2019). Proposals sent until 02/28 and 08/31 may be published, respectively, in the issues referring to the first and second semester of the year. A maximum of 12 articles will be published in each issue of the journal. If the volume of articles accepted for publication is greater, the remaining works will be published in the next issue of the journal.

Evaluation Policy

The peer review (double blind) evaluation procedure  will be followed. The articles received will be subject to a preliminary evaluation by the members of the Scientific Editorial Committee in order to determine their relevance to the objectives of the Journal and adequacy to the publication standards. Once the conformity of the article has been established, it will be sent  to two anonymously evaluators.

The evaluators or reviewers may recommend to the Scientific Editorial Committee, with the corresponding justification, the following opinion on the manuscript:

  • Acceptable for publication;
  • Acceptable for publication with minor corrections;
  • Acceptable for publication with major corrections;
  • Not acceptable for publication.

In any case, it will be the responsibility of the Scientific Editorial Committee to make the final decision on the publication of the article.

 

Editorial Board

Formed by the Director / Editor-in-Chief, the Associate Editors, the Editorial Secretary and members.

Function: assists the Management in all its functions and, especially, in the follow-up of the submissions (reception, evaluation, acceptance), and in the definition of the contents and the style of the journal (writing, rules of presentation of originals, design, creation and orientation sections of the journal).

Scientific Editorial Committee

Functions:

  • Establish and update the editorial policy of the Costas Journal and ensure its compliance and validity.
  • Guide the editorial process of the Costas Journal, with the aim of achieving and maintaining the optimal scientific-technical quality of the same.
  • Be aware of and apply the different evaluation systems of international indexed journals, which allow maintaining relevance, call and competitiveness of the Costas Journal.
  • Enforce the ethical standards of publication of the Costas Journal, in accordance with international standards.
  • Establish annually the publication agenda and central themes of the Costas Journal.
  • Receive, identify, evaluate strategic or emerging lines of Ibero-American or local impact, which may be of interest to generate, special numbers.
  • Receive, coordinate, attend and dictate the works received to be considered for publication in the Costas Journal.

Advisory Board

Function: Consultation body to advise the Editorial Board for the monitoring and continuous improvement of the CostasJournal.

Election of the components: The Advisory Board is formed by a representative of the UNESCO Regional Office for Science in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Acting Coordinator and the former Coordinators of the IBERMAR Network, and other members of the multidisciplinary group of associates of the Ibermar Network, who will be selected based on their history of participation in the Network,  for its demonstrated academic-scientific quality and the associated social-environmental and/or economic impact, as well as its professional ethics, through its projects, publications and capacity building around Integrated Coastal Management in Ibero-America.
