Abstract

Easter Week in Cadiz has a heritage of incalculable value. The anniversaries are one after the other, underlining its antiquity. In this sense, this year marks the four hundredth anniversary of the unbeatable sculpture of the lying Christ of the Holy Burial of Cadiz. A gift made to the city by the sculptor Francisco de Villegas and treasured by the Santa Cruz brotherhood. These lines serve to recognise the artistic and sentimental value of this sacred image which occupies an essential place in the whole of Cadiz's Holy Week. Dating from the 17th century and of Baroque style, its splendour continues, as does its veneration. A Christ that embellishes the Sacred Urn of the silversmith Manuel Ramírez y Serrano
