Abstract

It is difficult to find in contemporary history people with the trajectory of Paul Morphy, who was known as a chess player and chess theorist. His travelling record includes a brief stay in Cadiz. Little or nothing remains in his records of his passage through the city, when he was on his way to Paris. A reserved and silent man, he preferred the chess pieces for communication. A person with an international career who, in the 21st century, moved public opinion in Europe and the United States with the way he played. And despite his fleeting visit to Cádiz, this snapshot remains in the memory. A fleeting moment that was even more muted, as his diary was lost in the fire at his house in 1868.
