Emine and silk. Two queens and the Royal mantle: Isabel II and Victoria Eugenia de Battenberg

Abstract
Since Antiquity, ermine fur has been associated with majesty. This symbol of royalty was beautifully depicted in the female clothing represented in European portraits, especially from the Modern Age onwards. This article is dedicated to the iconography of the queens of Spain in which this fur was greatly represented. The main focus is the study of the court mantles worn by Isabel II especially her last one, which later on belonged to Queen Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg as it was one of the wedding gifts from Alfonso XIII. This important garment is currently preserved in the Royal Collections of Patrimonio Nacional as a legacy of her grandson Juan Carlos I.
