Notes on the attribution of qadar doctrine, the two sciences and the acquisition of prophecy to Ibn Masarra of Cordova
Info
Abstract
This article brings together in Spanish translation all passages from Ibn Masarra’s known
works which refer to key terms (qadar, ˁilm, or nubuwwa, among others) connected, in particular, to
three polemical doctrines that Ibn Ḥazm from Cordoba and other authors attributed to him in their
writings: the muˁtazilī doctrine of qadar, the doctrine of the two sciences, the hidden and the
manifest, especially related to the previous one, and the doctrine of the acquisition of prophethood.
The study of the texts shows that none of these doctrines appears in the works by Ibn Masarra
known to us at the moment in the terms formulated by his critics.
