The Andalusian city of Šiḏūna (8th-11th century)
Info
Abstract
This work aims to demonstrate that the city of Shidhūna, mentioned in the Aabic sources and identified as Medina Sidonia, is actually Sidueña, a place which is located today between Jerez de la Frontera and El Puerto de Santa María in the Sierra de San Cristóbal, opposite the river Guadalete. The article concludes with a list of all the identified Muslim scholars who were born, died or had a close relationship with Sidonia between the IXth and XIrh centuries.
