Abstract
This article comes with the aim of analyzing the Arabic loanwords present in the
translation of Avicenna’s Canon of Medicine by Gerard of Cremona (12th century), narrowing it
down to the chapter dedicated to the meat. After a concise exposition about the Canon and the
methodology followed, we try to briefly elucidate the reason behind the presence of Arabic
loanwords. The analysis of the Arabic loanwords ―a total of 12 terms― is based on the selection
of the voices in their context and their identification. Finally, we include our own translation of
the fragment and the transcriptions of both the Latin and Arabic texts.
