Abstract

This article is an etymological study of the following three words, which are of uncertain origin, but I consider that they are derived from an Arabic etymology: 1) "charca" (small lake. pool of standing water) from ŷar'a little quantity of water'; 2) "amainar" (Naut. To lower the sails) from 'amanna 'to loosen, to relent, to relax, to debilitate': and 3) "tamo" (fluff, flue, chaff. dust) from tamm 'rest, residue, remains.
