An Egyptian writer between the wars: Maḥmūd Tāhir Lāšīn and his short story "Conversation in the Village"
Info
Abstract
This article wants, in its first part, to approximate the figure of the Egyptian writer, Maḥmūd Tāhir Lāšīn (1894-1954), who was an outstanding member of one of the most leading literary groups in the Egyptian inter-war period, known as the "Modern School". In the second part, I present the Spanish translation of "A conversation in village", one of his most representative short stories. Läshin dealt in it with a philosophical and social problem which is still alive in today's Arabic reality. This aspect will be discussed in the third part of the article, but because of its length it will be published in a next issue of Al-Andalus Magreb.
