Teaching environmental law in public institutions of higher education in Mexico:
Situation and didactic tools.

Abstract
Teaching of environmental law (DA) has migrated to the centre of higher education programmes in law internationally. The inclusion of this subject implies possibilities of professional insertion for students and at the same time a great didactic challenge for teachers. This article compiles some elements for the development of programmes for the subject of DA that incorporate innovative didactic foundations from an interdisciplinary perspective. It is reported that DA is taught as a compulsory subject in 62% of undergraduate law programmes in Mexico and 6% include it as an optional subject. Puebla is the only State in which all undergraduate programmes include the teaching of this subject and in 12 Federal Entities the undergraduate programmes in Law do not include the teaching of environmental subjects. It is also reported that there are promising innovative teaching resources such as extra-classroom experience, learning through serious games, project method and case analysis, of which some examples are given. There are sufficient sources of textbooks in environmental law that can be used to outline up-to-date and comprehensive thematic content. It is hoped that research such as this will lead to evaluation and debate to improve the teaching of environmental law in Mexico.
