Info
Abstract
We give in this article two versions, Spanish and Arabic, of the mawlidiyya of Abū l-Qāsim al-Barŷī, an Andalusian poet from Berja (Almeria) and a high official of the Fez court. This casida was composed in honour of the Marini sultan Abū Sālim Ibrāhīm (760-762/1359-1361) for the mawlid conmemo ration of the year 761/1360, which was celebrated during the night of the first day of February of that year in the presence, between some other personalities. of the vizier and Granada polygraph Ben al-Jațīb. With this purpose in mind, we also provide a brief historic study of the celebration of the al-mawlid al-nabawī and of the mawlidiyyāt poems, as well as a por trait of its author based on Iḥāṭa and Ben Jaldūn's Ta'rīf.
