Abstract
his study is concerned with the concept of Thaghr (the frontier) which has played the role of "Marca Superior" in Andalus. The study ranges in time from the beginnings until the recon quiring of Zaragoza by Alfonso el Batallador in 1118. It deels with the distinct historical ages of this frontier acting as both the offensive and defensive front-line of Islamic Andalus, under the rule of anū Qasī, Tuŷībíes and Banū Hūd.
