Abstract
In this paper we deal with some North African place-names whose study permits the detection of migratory movements. After making remarks concerning points that need to be bome in mind in this type of research, we pay special attention to the analysis of two groups of names in particular. Those derived from from the Arabic dāmūs/daymūs, are located in the Magreb as well as in the Iberian Peninsula; and those that refer to the Baragwata Berber tribes, which we believe gave their name not only to the Moroccan region of Bilād al-Baragwāța, but also to the Pais de los Maragatos (province of Leon. Spain).
