Lexical innovation in the American Press of Independence: El Correo Americano del Sur (México, 1813)
Abstract
Taking into account the weekly newspaper El Correo Americano del Sur, we conducted a lexical study, which shows some innovations in this linguistic level during the South American Independence, and not only in the framework of the political and military terminology, but also of the everyday language. We especially focus on the American usage as a reflection of a consolidated variety, which maintains its specific features and gains an own vocabulary in this century as well.
