Abstract
En el siglo XIX, los viajeros románticos franceses fueron deslumbrados por el espejismo de Oriente al cruzar la península ibérica. Observaron el paisaje geográfico español, y andaluz por supuesto, a través de un prisma oriental o africano, dando lugara interpretaciones a veces sorprendentes. ¿El desierto que creían ver por todas partes existía realmente o era pura invención literaria? La respuesta la darán los geógrafos del siglo XVIII y XIX, cuyo deber era brindar al lector una visión lo más objetiva posible de la realidad.
