The contemporary pernambucan cinema and the discussive construction of women
Abstract
This study indicates that the feminine being and its representations in the current Pernambuco cinema is complex and full of nuances. From the analysis of films representative of this production, such as “Perfume Ball” by Lírio Ferreira and Paulo Caldas, “Febre do Rato e Baixio das Beasts” by Claudio Assis, “Boi Neon” by Gabriel Mascaro and “O Som ao Reder” by Kleber Mendonça Filho,” Aquarius “by Kleber Mendonça Filho and” The History of Eternity “by Camilo Cavalcante. Whether it be part of the middle class Recife or a forgotten village in the interior of the state, the woman is being recognized as an individual with its dilemmas, restlessness, virtues and dreams. This study points out that there is still a lot to be changed in the regional, national and international scenario regarding equality and gender issues, especially in the artistic sphere, but works such as these reflect on the progress of the female image in the cinema and the recognition of the its plurality and its multifaceted, albeit inhostile ways.
