Abstract
The influence of Pedro Calderón de la Barca’s dramas in Britain has not received extensive critical attention, especially if we compare the study of their reception in Great Britain with the studies devoted to their influence in the German lands. The reception of Calderonian drama in British Romanticism has attracted more research, particularly regarding the influence of the Spanish author on Percy B. Shelley. Despite the greater number of studies on Calderón and Percy B. Shelley, Mary W. Shelley’s interest on Calderón has remained practically unknown. This article will try to acknowledge the role played by the English novelist on the reception of Calderón in Great Britain, beyond the long shadow of her more famous husband.
