Editorial policy on the use of AI.

The journal Cuadernos de Ilustración y Romanticismo in its commitment to scientific integrity adheres to the guidelines set out in the COPE Declaration on the correct use of artificial intelligence (AI) by authors, reviewers and editors.

In case of non-observance, sanctions such as withdrawal of the article or penalisation for the submission of future works may be applied.

Basic principles

AI tools cannot fulfil authorship requirements, as they cannot take responsibility for the submitted work, cannot assert the presence or absence of conflicts of interest, and cannot manage copyright and licensing agreements.

Authors who use AI tools in the writing of a manuscript, the production of images or graphical elements of the article, as well as in the collection and analysis of data, must indicate which specific tool has been used, where and for what purposes. Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, including the parts produced by an AI tool, and are therefore liable for any breach of publication ethics.

Authors' use of AI

Authors must declare the use of AI tools and the elements for which they are employed, as well as the software used.

The author is responsible for the originality of the content submitted and in no way may the use of AI derive in plagiarism of existing content.

The author must ensure the veracity of the content generated by AI by verifying the absence of bias or errors.

Use of AI by reviewers

If reviewers use AI in the evaluation of the manuscript, they must declare it. The use of AI may provide occasional support but the final review must always be performed by humans.

Use of AI by the editorial team

The editorial team may use AI for administrative and editing purposes, such as manuscript formatting or to detect plagiarism.

Ethics in the use of AI

The use of AI must not lead to data manipulation, plagiarism or intellectual property infringement. Any misuse of AI will be dealt with in accordance with COPE policies.

Policy evaluation and updating

In view of the changing situation around AI this policy will be regularly reviewed to adapt to technological developments and emerging legislation on the subject.
