Abstract

Numerous studies have highlighted the alterations of affective and pragmatic prosody in autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), but there are few studies concerned with alterations of more rudimentary forms of linguistic prosody, such as lexical stress. The objective of this exploratory work is to offer a preliminary functional analysis of lexical stress assignment errors and their phonetic realization by a Spanish-speaking girl with ASD in order to determine the origin of the deficit and attribute it to language development delay or autistic disorder.
