Application of the origins of pragmatics to a labour mediation corpus: Austin's and Searle's theories

Abstract
In this paper our aim is to demonstrate the practical character of the first contributions to the field of study of pragmatics, while we make a critical review of them. In order to reach this goal, after making a modest approach to the origin of the concept pragmatics and the definitions that have been established on this
discipline, we will analyse the theories of speech acts o ered by Austin and Searle. These proposals will be exemplified with extracts from a corpus of labour mediation, a genre of discourse based on negotiation between employers and workers about the labour conditions of employees. As our foremost conclusion we would like to emphasize the usefulness of such theories in order to provide explanations of current communicative contexts like mediations.
