Abstract

We share the experience and analysis of the Reading Club "Darwin's cabin", performed during a week at Floreana Island, Galápagos, in a non-formal education space, for promoting literary and scientific literacy. We mixed the lecture of the book Darwin el viajero with concrete activities of reinforcement, in order to meet three objectives: disseminate the story of Charles Darwin and his relationship with Galápagos; familiarize the participants with some aspects of the Darwinian theory of evolution; and promote the habit of reading and the love of books and stories. We evaluated the performance of the objectives through surveys and observation, in which we included questions about other aspects not considered in the general objectives, such as the relationship between evolutionists and creationists ideas. We note some changes that need to be incorporated in the activity to be replicated in other contexts.
