Swift's A modest proposal in the pragmatics of irony: echoic mention and pretense approaches

Resumen
Una de las principales controversias sobre el estudio de la ironía desde un punto de vista pragmático se centra en si su interpretación conlleva simulación o mención ecoica. La explicación de la ironía como simulación se remonta a las propuestas más tempranas (Aristóteles). Sin embargo, veremos que el término simulación y su s implicaciones para la interpretación de la ironía no siempre se han entendido de la misma manera. Como mencionamos más arriba, en fechas más recientes los teóricos de la "pretense theory" (Clark y Gerrig, 1984) y de la mención ecoica (Sperber y Wilson 1998, 1992 (1990), 1986195, 1981, 1978; Sperber 1984; Jorgensen el al. 1984; Jorgensen 1996) han debatido sobre este tema desde un punto de vista pragmático. Es interesante que sus discusiones se han basado en un corpus muy concreto, "Una humilde propuesta", de Swift, y han continuado hasta fechas muy recientes (Kreu7, Roger 2000; Link 2000; Attardo 200 1, 2000).
Este trabajo busca examinar las implicaciones que la consideración de este corpus puede tener para el debate en cuestión y evaluará las propuestas que ambos enfoques puedan aportar. También se abordará si las diferentes connotaciones que se pueden dar a los términos "mención ecoica" o "simulación" pueden influir sobre la interpretación de las diferentes traducciones españolas de la obra. Finalmente, el análisis considerará también las aplicaciones que la lingüística de corpus puede tener para el estudio pragmático de la ironía y la necesidad de combinar el corpus con el contexto en el que aparece.
