Abstract

The principle of linguistic economy has been addressed by language experts of all times, among whom its nature as a law or as a trend has been an object of dispute. A historiographic perspective and current approaches within the theory of communication and of the cognitivism have helped to better define this phenomenon and the different linguistic mechanisms that it comprises.
