Abstract

In many occasions the linguists use terms to clarify concepts that do not have a real existence in the linguistic description. The phenomenon of the "grammaticalization" confirms this idea. The word appears in the description by a visual deceit that the investigator experiences when he studies an utterance that has form of "something", but that has lost its original meaning. That word that maintains the same form as before seems to play a different role. Nevertheless, for it does not have a so "concrete" meaning, is thought that this meaning has totally disappeared and, consequently, that has been transformed into a mere grammatical "tool".

This work aims at reviewing some of the most important theories on grammaticalization and will conclude that it does not have object to speak about it.
