Abstract
This review analyzes Ensayo sobre la educación de las mujeres: la desigualdad de género. Claves educativas (2022), a translation and contextualization of Claire Élisabeth de Vergennes, Countess of Rémusat’s Essai sur l’éducation des femmes (1824). Edited by Gómez Patiño, Blanco García, and Menéndez Menéndez, the book examines the historical role of female education in reproducing gender inequalities. Written in post-revolutionary France, Rémusat’s essay advocates for women’s education but within a patriarchal framework that reinforces their domestic role. From a feminist sociological perspective, the review highlights how the text legitimizes gender socialization and the division of labor. The critical edition contextualizes the essay within contemporary feminist debates, exposing how education has historically served as both a means of maintaining inequalities and a tool for social transformation.
