Abstract

In this paper we try to discover some of the mechanisms underlying the reading skíll through the analysís of a corpus. An original text in English together with several translations make up the corpus. Thus, our research on the reader's behaviour is based on the association reading-translation, making use of a set of constants and variables. The Theory of Relevance gives theoretical suppon to this research and in particular the way this model accounts for the referent assígnment process. We have come to the conclusion that the above mentioned process will be more or less exhaustíve depending on the benefits obtained.
