Abstract

The article presents a programme of the description of language in its principal ontological dimensions: designation, signification and meaning. It exposes briefly the three semantic plans of speech (universal, historical and individual), as well as their corresponding units and categories, and sets the respective theoretical and methodological delimitations for their systematical study. The main purpose is to draw guidelines towards the description of speech as a complex human activity, as a product of the interaction of cognitive, linguistic and psychosocial prhenomena. Therefore the study is an attempt to outline the integral programme, prepared on a lingusitic base in order to view the possible approaches to a coherent conception of speech as a singular human phenomenon, showing a multidimensional, yet unitary nature.
