IA tools policy
Introduction
The journal Pragmalingüística is committed to scientific integrity and transparency in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the processes of writing, editing, reviewing, and reusing content. The following is a description of the guidelines we have established for its correct use by authors, reviewers and editors.
General principles
According to the guidelines of the COPE Position:
- AI tools cannot meet the requirements for authorship as they cannot take responsibility for the submitted work. As non-legal entities, they cannot assert the presence or absence of conflicts of interest nor manage copyright and license agreements.
- Authors who use AI tools in the writing of a manuscript, production of images or graphical elements of the paper, or in the collection and analysis of data, must be transparent in disclosing in the Materials and Methods (or similar section) of the paper how the AI tool was used and which tool was used. Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, even those parts produced by an AI tool, and are thus liable for any breach of publication ethics.
Use of AI by authors
1. Declaration of use
Authors must explicitly declare the use of any AI tools in the writing or analysis of their manuscripts. The software used, the functions applied and the sections of the manuscript where it has been employed must be specified.
2. Responsibility for originality
The author is responsible for the originality of AI-generated or AI-assisted content. The generated material must not infringe third party rights or plagiarise existing content.
3. Review of AI-assisted content
Authors are responsible for carefully reviewing and checking any AI-generated content for bias, errors or inaccuracies.
Use of IA by reviewers
1. Declaration of AI use by reviewers
If reviewers use AI to assist in the evaluation of a manuscript, they must declare this use. AI can serve as a support, but the critical judgement and final evaluation must be performed by human beings.
2. Manuscript evaluation
AI should not replace the reviewer's responsibility for scientific evaluation. The process should primarily be performed by humans, and the use of AI should be complementary.
Use of AI by the editorial team
The editorial team may use AI for administrative and editing tasks, such as manuscript formatting or plagiarism detection, always under rigorous human supervision to ensure consistency and quality.
Ethics in the use of AI
The use of AI must not, under any circumstances, lead to data manipulation, plagiarism or intellectual property violations. Any misuse of AI, intentional or unintentional, will be dealt with in accordance with COPE policies and other ethical standards of the publisher.
Policy evaluation and updating
This policy will be reviewed regularly to adapt to technological advances in AI and to ensure best practice within scientific publishing.
Consequences of non-compliance
Failure to comply with this policy may result in penalties such as withdrawal of the manuscript or prohibition from publishing future papers in Pragmalingüística.
