Abstract
Clothing is one of the needs of human beings because it allows them to protect their bodies against adverse climatic factors. In addition to this function, throughout history, clothing has been an indicator of the cultural and technological evolution of different societies and at the same time an essential factor in the festivities and rituals of different human groups. The main objective of this article is to study the vocabulary of clothing in the Ḥassāniyya dialect by analysing a corpus obtained from various sources of oral tradition (popular poetry, proverbs, sayings, etc.) and some historical documents. The methodology consisted of listing the names of garments and fabrics; explaining the meaning of these names; and including a sample of proverbs, sayings, etc. in which the names of garments and fabrics are cited. Among the conclusions, we can mention the need to extend this kind of research to other areas where Ḥassāniyya dialect is spoken in order to collect as much material as possible from the oral tradition in relation to this and other topics with a view to contributing to the preservation of the oral heritage of this dialectal area.
