Abstract
Relevance of non-epistemic factors in the public perception of technoscientific issues
The purpose of this paper is to show the insufficiency of the epistemic factors (scientific and the epistemology of science knowledge) in the analysis of the answers given to controversial technoscientific issues with social interest. At the same time, we claim more attention toward non-epistemic factors (cultural, social, political, ethical and religious beliefs, emotions and feelings, interests, values and rules…). These elements are in the base of reasoning, arguments, and decisions that people take when facing this kind of concerns.
Key words: Epistemic factors; non-epistemic factors; public perceptions; socio-technoscientific issues (STSI); technoscientific decisions.
