Radio UEMCOM, Educating for Professionals
Abstract
One of the big challenges within third level education is to offer the university student a practical education of a professional nature which corresponds to the theoretical aspects seen during distinct modules. According to the European Higher Education Area, the European University of Madrid has created UEMCOM, a media platform where the student can develop practical skills in his/her professional field.
On UEMCOM radio, students cover news stories, they write them, they broadcast them, and they produce radio programmes of a wide diversity. This can be within or outside the scope of their modules. These programmes go live from Monday to Friday, and are up to eight hours daily. In the final year of the degree course, students have broadcasted the Champions League, the 2012 Football Eurocup, and Spanish General Elections.
