Abstract
Functional Grammar Workbench (FGW) can be conceived as a virtual línguistic engineering laboratory within the framework of Simon C. Dik's Functional Grammar. One of the best methods for the construction of large computational lexicons is the automatic analysis of machine-readable dictionaries. In that respect, the present version of FGW is able to build the predicate frames of Spanish motion verbs from the lexical entries in Diccionario del Español Actual ( 1999) by Manuel Seco, Olimpia Andrés and Gabino Ramos. One of the reasons for the selection of this dictionary is found in its lexicographical method: the definition text is presented with much more precision than in other Spanish dictionaries, which usually omit the information concerning selectional restrictions or present them in a rnther restricted way.
