Abstract

The context of situation is a typical concept of firthian linguistics. It is used to describe modes of meaning at the social level by the abstraction of its components: the components of this level are among others- the participants. the verbal action and the effect of this action. An important part of this concept comes directly from the anthropologist Bronislaw Malinowski, whose work belongs to a theoretical context developed in the beginning of the XX century where language is action. The American psychologists G.H. Mead. J. Dewey and G De Laguna share this functionalist context.
