Argumentation in storytelling and evaluation of the narrated world

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to highlight the persuasive and argumentative dimension of the tale This dimension has a dialogic character and it appears specially in the evaluative activity carried out by the narrator's discourse to draw the addressce's attention and interest to those aspects of the narrated world that are significant or revealing The structural stages of the tale are examined where evaluation is usually more frequent, and the principal evaluative procedures the narrator uses (and the author through him/her) to guide the interpretative cooperation of the listener/reader about the sense of the narrated world.
This analysis attempts to contribute to Pragmatics and the Rhetoric of Tale along the lines of Bakhtin's Dialogism, Adam's Text Linguistics and Labov's Sociolinguistics of Tale.
