Ethical commitment and anti-plagiarism policy

Ethical commitment

The quality standards of scientific journals require a statement of the ethical bases of publication to which the editorial board, authors and reviewers adhere. Pragmalingüística abides by the following ethical guidelines inspired by the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines)

Authors' commitments:

- Originality and plagiarism: the authors of manuscripts assure that the work is original, that it does not contain parts of other authors or other fragments of works already published by the authors. They also confirm the veracity of the data, i.e., that the empirical data have not been altered to verify hypotheses.
- Multiple and/or repetitive publications: the author should not publish articles in which the same results are repeated in more than one scientific journal. Simultaneous submission of the same contribution to multiple scientific journals is considered ethically incorrect and reprehensible.
- List of sources: the author must always provide the sources mentioned in the article.
- Authorship: the authors guarantee the inclusion of those persons who have made a significant scientific and intellectual contribution to the work. Authors should be ranked according to their level of responsibility and involvement.
- Conflict of interest and disclosure: all authors are required to declare explicitly that there are no conflicts of interest that may have influenced the results obtained or the interpretations proposed. Authors should also indicate any agency and/or project funding from which the research article arises.
- Errors in published articles: when an author identifies a major error or inaccuracy in his/her article, he/she should immediately inform the journal editors and provide them with all the information necessary to list the relevant corrections at the bottom of the article itself.
- Responsibility: all authors accept responsibility for what has been written.

Reviewers' commitments

- Contribution to the editorial decision: reviewers assume the commitment to perform a critical, honest, constructive and unbiased review.
- Respect for deadlines: any reviewer who does not feel competent in the subject matter of the article to be reviewed or who is unable to complete the evaluation within the scheduled time will immediately notify the editors. The reviewers are committed to evaluate the papers in the shortest possible time in order to meet the deadlines.
- Confidentiality: each assigned manuscript must be considered confidential. Therefore, these texts should not be discussed with others without the express consent of the editors.
- Objectivity: peer review will be conducted in an objective manner. No personal judgment of the authors of the contributions is considered appropriate. Reviewers are obliged to give sufficient reasons for their assessments. Reviewers will submit a full critical report with adequate references according to Pragmalinguistics review protocol and public regulations for reviewers; especially if the paper is proposed for rejection. They are obliged to warn the editors if substantial parts of the paper have already been published or are under review for another publication.
- Conflict of interest and disclosure: information obtained during the peer review process must be considered confidential and may not be used for personal purposes Reviewers will only review a manuscript if there is no conflict of interest.

Editorial board commitments

- Publication decision: the editors will guarantee the selection of the most qualified and scientifically specialized reviewers to issue a critical and expert appraisal of the work, with the least possible biases.
- Honesty: the editors evaluate the articles submitted for publication only on the basis of the scientific merit of the contents.
- Confidentiality: editors and editorial board members agree not to disclose information about articles submitted for publication to anyone other than authors, reviewers, and editors. The editors and editorial board are committed to the confidentiality of manuscripts, their authors and reviewers, so that anonymity preserves the intellectual integrity of the entire process.
- Conflict of interest and disclosure: the editors undertake not to use in their research the contents of the articles submitted for publication without the written consent of the author.
- Respect for time limits: the editors are fully responsible for compliance with the time limits for revisions and publication of accepted papers, to ensure rapid dissemination of their results.

Anti-plagiarism policy

Pragmalingüística maintains an anti-plagiarism policy to guarantee the originality of all its articles.
Manuscripts received will be subjected to an anti-plagiarism check (with Turnitin) during the formal review prior to external evaluation.
Suspected cases of plagiarism known through other means such as Internet searches, evaluation reports, third party complaints, etc. will also be investigated.
If plagiarism, self-plagiarism or redundant publication practices are detected in the papers received, the editorial team will reject them directly.
