Ethical commitment and anti-plagiarism policy
Ethical Commitment
The quality standards of scientific journals require a declaration of the ethical foundations of publication to which the editorial board, authors, and reviewers adhere. Pragmalingüística is governed by the following ethical principles inspired by the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines)
Authors' Commitments:
• Originality and Plagiarism:
- Authors ensure that the manuscript is original, does not contain parts from other authors or previously published work by the authors themselves, and confirm the accuracy of the data, meaning that empirical data has not been altered to verify hypotheses.
• Multiple and/or Redundant Publications:
- Authors should not publish articles in which the same results are repeated in more than one scientific journal. The simultaneous submission of the same contribution to multiple scientific journals is considered ethically incorrect and unacceptable.
• Source Listing:
- Authors must always provide the sources mentioned in the article.
• Authorship:
- Authors guarantee the inclusion of individuals who have made a significant scientific and intellectual contribution to the work. A significant contribution includes participation in research (conception and design, data acquisition, or data analysis and interpretation), writing of the article, critical review of its content, or final approval of the article before submission.
- The order of authors should reflect their level of responsibility and involvement.
- Other individuals who have contributed substantially to certain aspects of the research should be acknowledged.
• Conflict of Interest and Disclosure:
- All authors must explicitly declare that there are no conflicts of interest that may have influenced the results obtained or the interpretations proposed.
• Funding Information:
- Authors must indicate in the article's metadata any funding from agencies and/or projects that support the research, along with the corresponding identification codes.
• Errors in Published Articles:
- If an author identifies a significant error or inaccuracy in their article, they must immediately inform the journal's editors and provide all necessary information for making the appropriate corrections.
• Responsibility:
- All authors accept responsibility for what has been written.
Reviewers' Commitments
• Contribution to Editorial Decision:
- Reviewers commit to conducting a critical, honest, constructive, and unbiased review.
• Timeliness:
- Reviewers who feel unqualified to assess an article or cannot complete the review within the agreed timeframe must immediately notify the editors. Reviewers should evaluate papers as quickly as possible to meet deadlines.
• Confidentiality:
- Each assigned manuscript must be treated as confidential and should not be discussed with others without explicit permission from the editors.
• Objectivity:
- Peer review must be conducted objectively. Personal judgments about the authors are not appropriate.
- Reviewers must provide sufficient justification for their evaluations. They should submit a comprehensive critical report with appropriate references according to Pragmalinguistics review protocols and public review guidelines, especially if they recommend rejecting the work.
- Reviewers should inform editors if substantial parts of the work have already been published or are under review elsewhere.
• Conflict of Interest and Disclosure:
- Information obtained during peer review should be treated as confidential and not used for personal purposes. Reviewers should only assess a manuscript if no conflicts of interest exist.
Editorial Board Commitments
• Publication Decision:
- Editors ensure the selection of the most qualified and scientifically specialized reviewers to provide an unbiased, expert critique of the work.
• Honesty:
- Editors evaluate submissions based solely on the scientific merit of their content.
• Confidentiality:
- Editors and editorial board members must not disclose information about submitted articles to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, and other editorial staff.
- Editors and the editorial board are committed to maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts, authors, and reviewers to ensure intellectual integrity throughout the process.
• Conflict of Interest and Disclosure:
- Editors agree not to use content from submitted articles in their research without the author's written consent.
• Respect for Time Limits:
- Editors are responsible for ensuring timely reviews and publication of accepted works to facilitate rapid dissemination of their results.
Anti-Plagiarism Policy
Pragmalingüística maintains an anti-plagiarism policy to ensure the originality of all its articles.
Manuscripts received will be subjected to plagiarism detection using Turnitin software during the formal review process before external evaluation.
Suspected cases of plagiarism identified through other means, such as internet searches, review reports, or third-party complaints, will also be investigated.
If potential plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or redundant publication practices are detected, the editorial team will reject the submission outright.
Complaints and retractions
Any person may submit a complaint or suggestion via the journal's e-mail address, which will be forwarded to the editorial team for study and resolution, and the person concerned will be informed.
Any person may contact the journal to report possible cases of malpractice, plagiarism, falsification of data, etc., in articles published in Pragmalingüística. The editorial team will investigate, give the authors 15 days to present their allegations and make a decision. If malpractice is found, the PDF file of the article will be removed from the issue in which it was published and this will be expressly stated.
If those responsible for articles already published discover serious errors, they should inform the editorial team, who may consider publishing an erratum.
