Abstract
Emerging technologies are having a high impact on the educational system. This work tries to study the use of Extended Reality (ER) in higher education through an exhaustive and complete bibliometric analysis using reliable and truthful tools such as RStudio, Bibliometrix and Orange Data Mining. This analyzes aspects of 9,946 documents published between 2000 and 2024 and indexed in Scopus to reach various conclusions. The findings show that to carry out the use of various realities in teaching-learning experiences, devices such as mobile phones, simulators and immersive virtual environments, among others, are necessary; On the other hand, it expresses how there is a significant increase in research on RE and everything it includes; Furthermore, it shows greater use in fields such as engineering, medicine and computer science, as well as in face-to-face and mixed modalities, despite observing a growing interest in the distance modality. This bibliometric analysis provides a detailed view of RE in higher education and highlights the need to continue exploring and developing this area to improve educational quality and equity.
